The past decade has seen a new wave of travelers to Morocco. They visit then become inspired to launch North African inspired businesses. Among them is Tighemi a mother-daughter operated boutique that specializes in luxurious Moroccan ready to wear pieces. Their mohair capes and long tunic vests are in demand and can dress up any outfit. For the holiday season, they recently launched a line of handmade Moroccan cashmere throws.
Tighemi, the word for home in the Berber (Amazigh). is the perfect name for their brand which boasts an exotic collection for lifestyle and home. The Miami based shop is already a fashion leader and has a comprehensive online website that offers the same wide range of items featured in their brick and mortar store in South Florida’s design district.
The boutique is the brainchild of Tighemi’s curator and founder Lisa Walsh. She fell in love with Morocco for over two decades while visiting as a film photographer. The unique opportunity to photograph real life in the North African country introduced her to talented artisans.
As a result, Walsh continues to travel back and forth to Morocco where she works with skilled artists and craftsmen to produce her collection of top quality fashion, bags, and homewares. She is particularly proud of the collections given they are sustainably produced and in limited quantities. “There are no production or fulfillment facilities, and no middlemen, ensuring you only the highest quality of authentic and honestly created products,” says Walsh.
Other coveted items include Tighemi’s line of handcrafted durable tote and weekend bags, exclusive handblown glass, antique Berber tribe silver, and linen napkins embroidered by women in the Atlas Mountains. The boutique is operated by Walsh and her daughter Lisa who have been traveling to Morocco together for over 15 years. The duo aims to create branded products that highlight Morocco’s indigenous Berber culture and mystical traditions.
